Introduction

The word Patagonia is synonymous of wild nature, authentic gaucho lifestyle and freedom. This land located at the “South of the world”, has experimented a recent development of tourism, but it still offers infinite possibilities for the lovers of virgin nature, very far away from urban expansion.
The climb of Mount San Lorenzo represents a great challenge in this pristine land. Even though its 3.706 metres are far from the great heights of the giants of the Northern Andes in Chile & Argentina, its reputation is due to its indomitable character and high degree of difficulty. After the first ascent done by the Italian priest Alberto de Agostini in 1943, the myth has been building up over the years, attracting expedition groups from all over the world. They have had to face difficult weather and geography, but the dream of reaching the summit is not an impossible one. The rigorous planning and preparation, as well as the SPONDYLUS experience in this region, are the indispensable requirements for a successful expedition, paying special attention our security.
But not only the summit, but also the deep experience of Patagonia’s incomparable nature is the objective of this extraordinary expedition. For preparing ourselves for climbing San Lorenzo, we will visit first the Leones Lake, a scenic jewel far away from the beaten track. A camp in the beautiful surroundings of Lake General Carrera will offer us all the comfort of a typical Patagonian atmosphere.

IMPORTANT NOTE
This expedition is the most demanding program of our catalogue in terms of difficulty, both physical and technical. Due to the inherent conditions found in the region that we will visit, the exact course of the expedition can only be predicted beforehand in a very limited way. Flexibility and mental fortitude are required to accept possible waiting times in tents or refuges. The participants should be able to move around in an independent and secure way in a mixed terrain (snow, ice, rock). Rope teams will be formed to progress in the mountains. Great importance will be given to active support, team work and tolerance in the mountains.
If there is any change in the development of the itinerary or in the waiting days, these will be covered by the security days included in the program. The role of the porters is to carry the load: food, security- and camping equipment. Each member of the group is responsible for taking their own personal equipment. A good physical training is another requirement to participate in the expedition. Crossing cold rivers, strong winds, rain or snow are all part of this expedition.
