INTRODUCTION

Sewell was inscribed on the World Heritage List in July 2006, approved by UNESCO. "Due to its remarkable universal value, this National Monument must be protected and preserved for the benefit of humanity." We will visit this unique mining ghost town still remembered fondly by its former inhabitants with deep nostalgia, due to the loss of a town that homed 17000 inhabitants. A revealing account with archive footage takes us back to more than half a century ago. The town is located deep in the heart of the Andes Mountain Range at an altitude of 2200 meters above sea level. For almost a century it was the main camp of the largest underground copper mine in the world "El Teniente". Yet this interesting history is not the only interest of our daytrip. We also visit the old and traditional Cauquenes Thermal Spa. Its beautiful, old architecture and peaceful atmosphere provide the ambiance for a fantastic lunch in one of the most prestigious restaurants of Chile's Central Region. Learn about unique traditions and the interesting local culture. SPONDYLUS invites you to take part in an exciting time-travel trip into the past!
