After the successfull ascend of mount Lascar we did a long drive from San Pedro area to the fantastic Laguna Verde, close to Ojos del Salado. There we set up our tents for some nights.
The original plan to do an acclimatization tour to the 6000m- peak San Francisco had to be skipped due to the bad conditions of the access by vehicle to the base of this mountain. Instead, we drove to another 6000er, the Vicuña (6060m). We stopped the hard climb at 5850m as we ran out of time.
Well acclimatized and ready for the ascent of Ojos del Salado our tour reached the base camp of this mountain. Unfortunately the weather forecast was bad and predicted heavy wind if not snowfall in the coming days. This forced us to speed up the program significantly.
So, on December 4th, one day earlier than planned and despite temperaturas as low as -25°C, fighting against the strong and tiring wind, we reached the highest point of this trip: 6200m.
Finally, let me thank all of you following this Project and contributing to it. We did not make it to the Summit of Ojos del Salado, but thanks to your contributions the fight against the poverty in the slum area of Ecuador will continue.
