The group of four mountaineers from Germany and Austria reached together with the mountain guide Hans-Martin Schmitt from SPONDYLUS, the summit of the Ojos del Salado, with an altitude of 6893m / 22616 feet.
Hans-Peter S., Mathias B. and Peter B. from Germany, such as Friedrich "Fritz" M. from Austria, left with the SPONYLUS guides Hans and Mario the high camp (Tejos Refuge, approx. 5800m / 19029 feet) at 03:30 am. The climatic conditions were quite good, even though the low temperatures of approx. -15ºC / 5ºF, and sometimes the very strong winds demanded from the mountaineers their best efforts.
After about 7,5 hours at exactly 11:02 am, Fritz M. from Austria was the first one to set foot on the summit of the highest volcano of the world. The rest of the group was right behind him, so all the participants of the expedition could enjoy together the emotion of the successful ascent. Exhausted but glad and very proud, the whole group arrived in the afternoon to the Base Camp.
This was the first expedition organized by a big German tour operator with the cooperation of SPONDYLUS to Ojos del Salado. Of course, we are very proud of this because of the excellent result and the extremely good comments of our clients. SPONDYLUS hopes this is just the beginning of a long and successful strategic alliance with this prestigious German company.
