SUCCESSFUL ASCENT OF THE PILI (6052M), A HIGH ALTITUDE INCA CEREMONIAL SANCTUARY

After a fantastic acclimatization period, crossing desert streams, traversing canyons and communing with nature the expedition team achieved the physical conditions needed to reach a 6000er. The base camp was set on the slopes of the majestic Pili at a height of 4880m. Adrian Germishuizen, the expedition leader decided that the group was prepared to attack the summit. Under perfect weather conditions and a stary night sky the group left the tents on November 10th at 03:30 am. The 4 mountaineers Josh Iverson (United States of America), Adrian Germishuizen (South Africa), Jean Claude Piessevaux (Chile) and Nicholas Parkinson (United States of America) reached after a streneous ascent the sacred peak.

For Josh this successful experience has awakened a desire to come back to this wonderful land, the Atacama mountain desert.

The SPONDYLUS team CONGRATULATES Josh Iverson! And we hope to welcome him back some day.
